FAQ

What does the Birth Photography package include?
  • Package includes an in-person, pre-birth consultation around 36 weeks, my time being on call 24/7 beginning at your 39th week through the 42rd week, my time at your labor, birth and the first few hours after your baby is born, my talent and hand-editing of all images including a blog sneak peek within the first few days after birth.  Included in the package is a CD of all high resolution images with print release.
How do I book my due date?
  •  A $400 deposit is due to book your due date. I only take a few births per month, so please consider booking early in the third trimester.  The remaining balance is due at our in-person, pre-birth consultation around your 36th week.
When will I get my birth photography pictures?
  • Within the first few days of birth, a sneak peak of your birth photography will be available online.  You will get the CD of all of the high resolution images 4-6 weeks after giving birth.
When will you come to the birth?
  • I come to the birth when your midwife or doctor confirm that you are in active labor and stay for a few hours following the birth.  I am on call 24/7 beginning your 39th week through your 42rd week of pregnancy. Generally, I like to know when you think labor is beginning so that I can make arrangements for my children. I will come to the birth once active labor has begun.  I need at least 2 hours notice to make arrangements for my children.
What if I go into labor before 39 weeks?
  • Unless you have a history of early labor, I go on call 24/7 at 39 weeks and stay on call through 42 weeks. I do not limit my availability to this time frame, but my availability is only guaranteed for this specified time frame. My clients all receive my cell phone number and can contact me at any time of the day or night via text or phone between the 39-42 week of pregnancy.
What if my labor is long?
  • Birth is unpredictable, but I am in it for the long haul!  I may take several breaks or even go home to rest if the situation warrants it. But once I start documenting a birth journey, I continue documenting until the journey is complete!
What if I have a Cesarean?
  • If you require an otherwise unplanned Cesarean birth, I strongly recommend that I follow you into the operating room to photograph those beautiful moments, if at all possible. Ultimately the decision on whether I am allowed to photograph your Cesarean birth is up to the Anesthesiologist and Obstetrician. I can advocate for my presence but no one can advocate better than you!  Sometimes it is allowed in whole or part. Sometimes it isn’t.  Refunds aren't available if I am not allowed in the operating or delivery room.
What if you get sick?
  • While I do not get close to you or your baby in the way a doula, nurse or midwife will, I still strongly believe that the birth environment must stay free of contagious germs for the safety and well-being of Mom and Baby. If I am actively ill (new cough or cold, fever, stomach virus, etc) or facing a personal emergency, a refund will be given.
What if you miss the birth?
  • If I am unable to attend your birth due to no fault of my own (ie I was not given proper advance notice or was not called in time, the birth was very quick, the hospital refused me admittance, etc) your birth fee is non-refundable. A Fresh 48 session will be substituted.
Do you photograph homebirths?
  • Absolutely! I love homebirths!  I will not, however, photograph unassisted births.
In which areas of Sacramento do you work?
  • At this time, I attend births in Sacramento, Davis, Roseville and Placerville. Travel fees may apply.
